چکیده

Problem solving by declarative theory building can be an extremely e ective method for porting concepts and knowledge from the problem domain to the solution domain, by allowing the implementation of complete procedural constructs and enabling to produce sound solutions. If conveniently expressed, such a theory may be directly coded into a declarative programming language. If expressed within the paradigm of logic programming, then the theory itself represents the very procedure to obtain its desired solutions. The illustrative case study considered here is the obtention of architectural layouts from an adjacency graph: Given a list of imposed adjacencies among a set of planar rectangular spaces (represented by the graph's nodes), the goal is to generate all permissible layouts schemas on the plane which respect the adjacencies, and to determine the minimal modular dimensions of such a

Computing Narratives of Cognitive User Experience for Building Design Analysis: KR for Industry Scale Computer-Aided Architecture Design

We present a cognitive design assistance system equipped with analytical capabilities aimed at anticipating architectural building design performance with respect to peoplecentred functional design goals. The paper focuses on the system capability to generate narratives of visuo-locomotive user experience from digital computer-aided architecture design (CAAD) models. The system is based on an u...

Architectural Design Rewriting as an Architecture Description Language

Architectural Design Rewriting (ADR) is a declarative rule-based approach for the design of dynamic software architectures. The key features that make ADR a suitable and expressive framework are the algebraic presentation of graph-based structures and the use of conditional rewrite rules. These features enable the modelling of, e.g. hierarchical design, inductively defined reconfigurations and ...

Software Service Engineering - Architect's Dream or Developer's Nightmare?

Architectural principles such as loose coupling are the key drivers behind the adoption of service-oriented architectures. Service-oriented architectures promote concepts such as composition, process modeling, protocol design, declarative programming, event-based programming, and object-document mapping. These architectural ideals can be fraught with challenges for developers who are faced with...

Design by Contract in .NET Using Aspect Oriented Programming

Most software is being implemented using imperative programming techniques. However, for certain problem domains declarative code has proven to be more expressive, easier to understand and more compact than its imperative counterpart. Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP) seems to be a promising approach for intermixing imperative program code with declarative aspect information using an aspect wea...

Declarative Semantics in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey

One of the modern paradigms to develop an application is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles in applications. In an application, we must distinguish between procedural semantics and declarative semantics for their implementation in a specific programming language. For the procedural semantics, we can write a ...
